Cristiano Ronaldo facing ANOTHER ban after shock Real Madrid defeat
He’s the strong favourite to win the Ballon d’Or and won the FIFA World Player of the Year at The Best awards last week, but Cristiano Ronaldo is not enjoying a particularly successful season so far.
The Portuguese super star missed the first five matches with a ban for pushing the referee in Real Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup win vs. Barcelona, and has since scored just 1 goal in 6 league games.
Now he could be facing another suspension after lashing out at Girona midfielder Pere Pons, as los Blancos were beaten 2-1 by the newly promoted side in Catalonia on Sunday afternoon.
Ronaldo was caught on camera putting his hand in Pon’s face and pushing him to the ground at a corner, an incident that wasn’t seen by referee Alejando Hernandez Hernandez.
According to reports, he could now face another ban if the Spanish FA review the incident and decide to take retrospective action. The 32 year-old has a history of aggressive outbursts, but often goes unpunished.
In 2014-15 he saw red for kicking Cordoba player Edimar, and in the same season he was caught on camera punching Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin.
Madrid struggled during his absence earlier in the season, and are now eight points behind leaders Barcelona following the loss in Girona. They have an uphill task if they want to defend their title.
Isco had opened the scoring for them in the first half, but quickfire goals from Christian Stuani and Portu after the break earned the hosts a famous 2-1 win at the Estadio Montilivi.
