Solari and Marcelo unmoved by rumours linking Mourinho to Real Madrid

Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday marked the end of Jose Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford in his third season in charge. However, the Special One has been linked with a move to Real Madrid to replace Santiago Solari at the helm of affairs.

Mourinho spent three years at the Bernabeu from 2010 to 2013 and won the La Liga and Copa del Rey before an unimpressive third season saw the Los Blancos pull the trigger on him. If reports are to be believed, president Florentino Perez has expressed his interest in the Portuguese tactician and has stated that he has the ability to restore the club to its former glory.

Marcelo was one of the key players at Real Madrid when Mourinho was in charge and the Brazilian full-back has expressed his sympathy on hearing the news of his former manager’s sacking. He said, “[His sacking] is a pity as he is a great coach and for him to be without a club is a pity.”

When asked about the rumours linking the Special One back to the Bernabeu, he added, “It’s not for me to say if he should come to Real Madrid, but I really appreciate all he did for me at this club”.

Current manager Santiago Solari didn’t show much interest when asked about the possibility of a Mourinho arrival and he doesn’t think that his job is under threat.

Solari said, “How would I be worried about rumours or speculation about Real Madrid?”

“It happens every day, it is just part of our reality.

“I feel the same as when I arrived here to work as a coach, and further back as a player. That is to give everything in my job every day, that is my way of viewing football.”

With Real Madrid struggling to find their feet this season, it remains to be seen whether these rumours actually materialise.
