Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Serbian striker Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt on a transfer fee of €60 million. Jovic had an excellent 2018/19 season with Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring 27 goals and providing 7 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions. The 21-year old played a key role in Eintracht Frankfurt’s run to the Europa League semi-finals, scoring 10 goals which was the second most number of goals scored during the competition.

Jovic who was on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt from Benfica, signed a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt till 2023. However, he will not play for the former Champions League runners-up as Real Madrid have signed him.

Due to his excellent 2018/19 season, several clubs were interested in signing Jovic but Real Madrid won the race. This does come as little bit of a surprise as a few weeks back, Jovic hinted to a move to Premier League or Serie A.

Real Madrid will be Jovic’s 4th club after Red Star Belgrade, Benfica and Eintracht Frankfurt. He has also made 4 appearances for Serbia. Jovic made his international debut exactly one year back against Chile. He was in Serbia’s squad for the World Cup in Russia last summer and made an appearance as a late substitute in Serbia’s final group game against Brazil.

In March this year, Jovic scored his first goal for Serbia in a friendly against Germany a Wolfsburg. The match eventually ended in a 1-1 draw with Leon Goretzka netting Germany’s equaliser.

Eintracht Frankfurt technical director Fredi Bobic said, “Luka Jovic is a big loss for us. His explosiveness and scoring skills have spread throughout Europe and we’ve benefited not only from his goals over the past two years. But for us it was clear that there is a financial pain threshold. For Eintracht Frankfurt this is a good and important transfer. We wish Luka only the best for his future. He has the best qualifications for a great career. And we are proud that we were able to support him along the way.”

Jovic’s addition is a big bonus for Real Madrid who had a very forgettable season. However, the club will be hoping to have a better season in 2019/20 and with Jovic up front, there is every chance they will have a good 2019/20 season.
