The La Liga side have suffered a big blow.

They could be without two of their key players for the next games.

As if it wasn’t enough that Real Madrid lost 2-1 and Marcelo got injured, now reports claim that Courtois has suffered a groin injury during the game.

The Belgian goalkeeper limped on Sunday evening after struggling with a muscular injury, as per Marca. Courtois left the stadium with a bandage on his thigh and it is said that he had pains in his adductor muscle. Tests will now evaluate the extent of the injury.

The 27-year-old is expected to miss Friday’s game against Eibar, with Alphonse Areola set to replace him. However, there are concerns that he could also miss the Champions League round of 16 return leg against Manchester City at the Etihad on 17 March.

Interestingly, Courtois is the first goalkeeper to maintain a clean sheet in both El Clasico games since 1974-1975. Real Madrid have only kept clean sheets home and away vs Barcelona in just four La Liga seasons.
