United reportedly monitoring the situation with French striker
Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the situation with Arsenal and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema
The French international, who has been heavily linked with Arsenal for several years now, is apparently one of the few elite forwards Louis van Gaal would want to make a move for if possible.
Van Gaal is no longer actively pursuing a centre-forward, with Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson his current options.
But if word reaches him that Real could sell Benzema this summer, United will look to bring him in ahead of Arsenal – and as they can offer larger financial packages they would have a great chance of doing so. United also have the option to play Memphis Depay and Adnan Januzaj up front should they choose to do so.
Benzema is Real Madrid’s senior striker but with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale potent attacking threats from wide, Rafa Benitez has other options when it comes to choosing his team.
If Real do sell Benzema, he is expected to cost around ÂŁ45m, ÂŁ15m more than the fee the Spanish club paid Lyon in 2009.
