Lionel Messi missed the majority of the introduction of the new season due to an injury.
His absence has been felt harshly by the Catalan side. Barcelona have gotten off to the worst start in 25 years. Now that Messi has regained initial fitness, he has started to make his way back. However, last match even though he began, he was substituted and taken off at half time. Naturally to the concern of many fans, the fear was Messi had come back too early and injured himself again.
However, Barca boss explained that such is not the case and Messi’s change was just a precaution.
“When something happens to Messi, the world stops,” Valverde said after the game.
“But it doesn’t seem to be anything more than discomfort in his adductor and we made the change as a precaution.”
“He had discomfort,” the French forward Griezmann told Movistar LaLiga. “I don’t know any more than that because we didn’t have time to talk to him (at half-time). The boss was giving us tactical instructions.”
The Messi Griezmann combination got off to a good start as Messi’s 6th minute corner found the French World Cup winner in the box.
