Benzema has celebrated an important milestone on Wednesday

The Frenchman has reached 100 UCL appearances.

In the 1-2 loss to Manchester City, Karim Benzema made his 100th Champions League match for Real Madrid. The French striker played the entire 90 minutes but had a very limited contribution in attack due to Zidane’s cautious approach to the game and City’s defensive prowess.

Stats show that he made barely 18 touches in the game or, in fact, one touch every 5 minutes.  Prior to the UCL tie at the Bernabeu, Karim revealed that was pleased to be on the verge of making such a remarkable achievement.

“I’m really proud, especially as it’s the Champions League, which is something different,” he told UEFA. “It’s not the same as the league or other competitions. I think that everything around it is a little crazier, there’s a little more pressure. To get to that 100th game, I hope I’ll be there, operational. I’m going to enjoy it.”

The 32-year-old has joined many current and former Real Madrid players on the list. Sergio Ramos, Roberto Carlos, Raul, Cristiano Ronaldo and Iker Casillas have managed to get to the number of 100 UCL appearances or more in the Los Blancos jersey.
