This summer, Rodrigo Moreno was a target of Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.

However, in a turn of events, he remained at Valencia.

With eight goals and six assists last season, a lot was expected from Valencia‘s main target man Rodrigo this season. However, the striker failed to find the net in seven appearances, starting six league matches. As a result, many attributed such a bad start to Rodrigo’s failed transfer to Atletico Madrid.

It seems that Cholo Simeone’s side could have good use of the Spanish international, as Atletico is struggling in the offensive department, just like Valencia. Despite the rough start to the season, Rodrigo has no regrets over a stay at Valencia.

“In football, things are only true when there is a signature put and it is all sorted. But yes, I was very close to leaving”, Rodrigo told Sport English. “In the end, I belong to Valencia and I can’t just do what I want. I knew the clubs were the ones who had to sort it out and from there I had decided what interested me more.

“It was not a disappointment for me to stay at Valencia or not join Atletico, I haven’t died or anything close. I never felt like a former Valencia player or an Atletico Madrid player.”

It is clear that Moreno has a good outlook on the future. He will need it, as Valencia are sitting at 7th place in the league after a rough start. The team, and Moreno’s favorite, Marcelinho was sacked shortly after the start of the season. This move was as a result of the board’s fallout with the great Spanish manager.
