The Portuguese news outlet, A Bola has reported on Everton’s newfound interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder, Bruno Fernandes.

According to the report, the Toffees might have to shell out £35m to get their hands on the Portuguese midfielder. The 24-year-old has started off the 2018/19 campaign in blistering form, scoring 14 goals and furthering 9 assists in 26 games.

He was also on display for Portugal in the 2018 FIFA World Cup which brought plenty of major European clubs to take notice of his footballing talents. Fernandes has 11 senior caps for his country and 27 at various youth levels.

Everton were strongly linked with Mexican international, Hirving Lozano after his exploits in the World Cup but sporting director, Marcel Brands clearly stated that the club will not spend massive amounts on talents who are unproven in the European stage.

Fernandes does not have experience in the Premier League but has featured in the Serie A, the Primera Liga and the UEFA Champions League. At 24, he still has time to grow as a footballer and could be a key piece in the Everton midfield.

The real question lies in whether Marco Silva should be looking at newer faces or should he concentrate all his efforts in keeping Andres Gomes beyond this season. Gomes who has been loaned out of Barcelona and also a compatriot of Fernandes has found new life at the Goodison Park and is quickly becoming a fan favourite.

With Everton stating record turnovers in 2018, the club faithful have been demanding for Gomes’ transfer to be made permanent as soon as possible.
