Ronald Koeman wants the Frenchman to bolster his underperforming Toffees team

Everton are set to make a January move for Manchester United’s Morgan Schneiderlin and hope to negotiate a cut-price deal to bring him to Goodison Park.

The France international is on the fringe of Jose Mourinho’s squad and Ronaldo Koeman is desperate to bolster his options heading into the new year, with the club currently ninth in the league with 20 points from 15 games.

It’s not been the perfect start to life on Merseyside for Koeman, and he hopes the club can negotiate a lower fee for a player who is struggling for game time at Old Trafford.

Everton and United have a great long-term relationship when it comes to transfers, with the likes of Phil Neville, Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney just a few of the names to have transferred between the clubs in recent years.

Contact is already understood to have been made between Everton and United, with Koeman identifying the former Southampton player as one of his main transfer targets.

Koeman can guarantee regular first team football for the midfielder, who is low down the pecking order, behind Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera at Old Trafford.

They could also make a loan move for outcast Memphis Depay, with Dutch compatriot Koeman looking to find a suitable replacement for Yannick Bolasie, who has been ruled out for the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
