Steven Naismith and Kevin Mirallas set to have talks with Roberto Martinez

Roberto Martinez has confirmed he will hold future-talks with Everton duo Steven Naismith and Kevin Mirallas ahead of the January transfer window.

The Toffees duo face uncertain futures, with both strongly linked with moves away from Goodison Park, but Martinez is keen to keep hold of both so that his squad is not effected in the January transfer window.

Naismith was close to joining Norwich City on Transfer Deadline Day over the summer, while Mirallas has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur over the past few seasons.

However, Martinez is eager to hold talks with them both and has reiterated his desires to keep hold of both of them.

Martinez Plans Talks

“It is so important to have a strong squad,” he said. “Every single player will have an important role.

“January is not a window we are looking at to bring players in. Sometimes it is a window of opportunity and we will always keep that in mind, but January is about trying to continue that continuity.

“All the players have to have real clarity on their roles. A player needs to be ready to fight for the position and add to the team.

“Steven is a very intelligent footballer and it has been a very frustrating period for him.

“But you could get suspensions and injuries. The competition for places is as strong as it could have been.”
