Watford-v-Everton

After a horrendous second half to the season, Roberto Martinez has been relieved of his duties as Everton manager, with Immediate effect.

The Toffees, who have only picked up 4 points since March 5, have become increasingly frustrated with the performances put in by Martinez’s men, and the 3-0 loss to Sunderland on Wednesday became the final match the Spaniard would take charge of.

Martinez had 3 years remaining on his current contract with Everton, and led the club to the Semi-finals of both the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup this season, but results in the league as of late can only be described as unacceptable, and have seen the club tumble into the bottom half of the table.

Even before kick off at the Stadium of light on Wednesday, a ‘Martinez Out’ banner was displayed, proving the frustrations of the Everton faithful with the Spanish Manager. This wasn’t the first time the banner has been displayed this season either, as it was shown after the 2-1 win over Bournemouth on the 30th April.

It had been said that a planned protest against Martinez’s reign was to go ahead on Thursday night at St Georges hall, but obviously now will have no point in going ahead.

Roberto Martinez has been at the club since 2013, after becoming the Successor to long term manager David Moyes. In his first season at the club, he guided Everton to a record breaking points total of 72, and a league finish of 5th place- Immediately winning the fans over.

He also oversaw the clubs record ÂŁ28million signing of Belgian Striker Romelu Lukaku, who has since become a fan favourite and a focal point of the Toffee’s side.

However, since these good times, he has been unable to replicate any form of success, finishing 11th last season and currently sitting 12th in the league this season- guaranteeing the club yet another bottom-half finish.

Fans believe they deserve better than this- and it has been a long time coming for many.
