Everton have won the race to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on a season long loan deal despite interest from West Brom. Everton also made a late swoop for England international Gareth Barry from Manchester United on a temporary deal.

Romelu Lukaku was expected to be part of Jose Mourinho’s first team plans this year but the recent signing of Samuel Eto’o on a free transfer means the chances of his first team football is limited.

West Brom were interested in bringing the striker back to West Brom after he scored 17 goals for them last year, Lukaku was apparently torn between Everton and West Brom but finally decided to join West Brom and confirmed it on  Twitter saying ‘signed Everton onn a season loan.’

Barry has also signed for Everton, the negotiations had hit a rocky period as Everton were not willing to pay his wages but the sale of Fellaini freed up some funds and made the Barry signing happen.

Everton continued their spending by signing Wigan midfielder james McCarthy for £13 million, Everton had tried to sign him prior to this offer but Wigan chairman Dave Whelen said the offer wasn’t good enough, the money being given over a 4 year period.
