Everton manager Roberto Martinez has expressed his desire to sign Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeady in the January transfer window, as Martinez will want to build upon his already impressive squad, as Everton push for Europe.

Martinez could also secure a pre contract agreement for the Republic of Ireland winger, who is out of contract with the Russian giants in the summer.

McGeady, who is known for his skillful play enjoyed a very successful spell with Celtic, but signed for the Russian club in 2010, after Spartak paid ÂŁ9.5 million for his services.

MartĂnez wants to increase his midfield options when the transfer window reopens and moves for McGeady and Landon Donovan have been considered as possible transfer targets, with Donovan enjoying two spell’s at Goodison Park, in 2010, and 2012 respectively, as Everton push for a European place after a superb start to the season.

MartĂnez, is a long-standing admirer of the 27-year-old, who he tried to sign for his former club Wigan Athletic in the 2012/13 campaign.

Seamus Coleman, a Republic team-mate of McGeady, said: “I hope people start taking us seriously now. We have a very good and have a great bunch of lads”.

Martinez has had a superb start to his Everton managerial career, after guiding the Toffees to a first win over Manchester United since 1992, after Brian Oviedo lashed home to give Everton an historic win.

McGeady has refused to sign a new deal with the Russian side and has since been suspended from the Moscow giants.
