Ex-scout backs defender for mega-move

John Stones is good enough to play for Real Madrid one day, believes former Everton scout Tony Henry.

Stones was hotly pursued by Chelsea for most of the summer, with the Blues having four bids turned down for the defender.

However, Stones, who even handed in a transfer request which was denied by the Toffees, is staying at Goodison Park, at least until the transfer window opens again in the New Year.

Henry, who discovered Stones at Barnsley and brought him to Merseyside under then-manager David Moyes, reckons the centre-back could be good enough to turn out at the Bernabeu one day.

Stones Backed For Big Move

“John will still make mistakes but in two years, I think he could be anywhere. He could be at Real Madrid,” Henry told the Liverpool Echo.

“I’m glad he stayed at Everton because if he had gone to Chelsea or Manchester United he would have played, but I feel it may have been too much for him at the moment.

“But playing at Everton, alongside Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman, will bring him on even more.

“But that he is now a regular in the England squad speaks volumes of the kid. I’m delighted for him.”
