Everton are set to complete the signing of Romelu Lukaku for a club record fee of £28.5m. According to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the deal was agreed last night after Jose Mourinho gave the move the go ahead.

The striker spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, where he impressed, scoring 16 goals to help Everton claim 5th place in the Premier League. The Belgium man’s performances attracted interest from a host of clubs, including Juventus, Wolfsburg and Atletico Madrid.

However, Lukaku is reportedly keen to stay in England and following the arrival of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge, he has been told he is free to leave, with Everton eager to bring the forward back to the club on a permanent basis.

This deal for Lukaku by The Toffees will smash the club’s previous transfer record fee which was set by Marouane Fellaini, who is now at Man United.
