Jose Mourinho has revealed he narrowly missed out on signing defenders Joao Miranda & Raphael Varane as Chelsea set to complete the signing of Moroccan Mehdi Benatia.
Chelsea look set to beat Manchester United to the signing of the Roma centre back for £30 million as Chelsea was his preferred choice.
An opportunity to play under Jose Mourinho was too hard to turn down but the same can’t be said about Chelsea’s top two targets Miranda & Varane.
Miranda opted to turn down the move in order to stay at Spanish champions Atletico, Varane who’s played under Mourinho before was categorically ‘not for sale’ leading to Jose turning his attentions to Serie A star Benatia.
It is expected that The Moroccan will compete directly with Terry and Cahill for a starting position with Zouma providing crucial cover and Ivanovic sticking to full back.
