Brendan Rodgers warns fellow title rivals Chelsea and Manchester City they should fear coming to Anfield – and lines up Southampton centre-back Lovren as summer priority.
“There is no doubt they understand this is going to be a real tough place to come. We love playing here” said a beaming Liverpool boss Rodgers.
The win on Sunday put Liverpool top of the Premiership for the first time since Christmas, wins in their remaining six games would make them champions for the first time since 1990.
“The support today was incredible and that is only going to intensify as the season goes on. It works for us rather than against us.
“We respect Chelsea, they have world-class manager, top players who have won the Premier League and Champions League. City are one of the new superpowers in European football.
“But we feel we can win any game, because we are a team. We may not have the best group of individuals but we have a lot of hunger.”
With both Chelsea and Manchester City still to visit Anfield, the title seemingly is within Liverpool’s grasp.
Even without the title Liverpool will inevitably finish top four, cementing Champions League football next season and intensifying transfer speculation.
The task ahead for Liverpool is incredibly difficult but not impossible, they would have to extend their winning streak from eight in a row to fourteen. Beating Chelsea and Manchester City in the process.
Looking towards the summer and adding some much needed depth to the squad is the main priority, and Liverpool are preparing a bid for Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren after missing out on the 24-year-old last year.
The Croatia international has made 25 appearances for the Saints this season and scored the winner against Rodgers’ title-chasers at Anfield in September.
He was heavily linked with Liverpool before arriving at St Mary’s in an £8.5million deal from French side Lyon in June.
