Mesut Ozil’s German team mates Philipp Lahm and Lukas Podolski have both backed the Arsenal midfielder to return to his ‘extraordinary’ form soon. The club record signing has been criticised over recent week for poor performances as his form for Arsene Wenger’s side has dropped dramatically since joining in the summer. Ozil was left out of Arsenal’s squad in their loss away at Stoke at the weekend, but German captain Lahm is convinced the playmaker’s problems will be short-lived.

“It’s normal that there are ups and downs in your career,” he said, “Mesut is an exraordinary player and for Real Madrid and in the beginning at Arsenal, he was excellent, so we don’t need to worry about Mesut.”

“He’ll find his top form again and I can’t see any problems.”

Ozil’s Arsenal and Germany team mate Lukas Podolski was quick to jump in and echo the words of Lahm ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup game at home to Everton at the weekend,

“Criticism is part and parcel of football, I think Mesut is a fantastic player,” said Podolski, “he’s going to give a lot of joy to Arsenal and Germany. He’s still young and a good friend of mine. He’s played many great games and I’m sure he will play many more.”

“I think some of the criticism was a bit exaggerated and unfair at times.”
