Manuel Pellegrini confirms injury news is not good for midfielder

Manchester City new-boy Fabian Delph is likely to miss the start of next season after injuring his hamstring just 18-minutes into his debut yesterday.

The midfielder, who joined from Aston Villa in an ÂŁ8million deal, was stretchered off the pitch during the pre-season friendly in Australia and is now likely to miss the first few weeks of the new Premier League season.

Delph’s Disaster

Delph has received heavy criticism after choosing to join City due to his statement six days before saying he wants to show loyalty exists in football.

Some would say karma has caught up with Delph after he pulled up just 18-minutes into his debut against Real Madrid and was stretchered off the pitch.

After the game, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed the injury didn’t look good for the England international with the league kicking off in two weeks time.

Pellegrini Gives Latest

“This injury is not good news for Delph,” he said. “Fabian will see the doctor tomorrow and we will have a much clearer diagnosis about how bad it is. The doctor needs at least 48 hours to know the extent of this injury and how bad it is.”

“We were missing three centre-backs [Eliaquim Mangala, Vincent Kompany and Martin Demichelis] – so the issue [heavy defeat] was more our defence than the injury to Fabian.”

Delph is likely to find out the full extent of his injuries tomorrow.
