Atletico Madrid have confirmed that they did not see a transfer move for Radamel Falcao fall through on deadline day, according to club president Enrique Cerezo.

The Colombia international has been continuously linked with a return to the Spanish giants this season. He had two impressive seasons in the Spanish capital from 2011 to 2013.

Falcao netted 70 times in 90 games for the La Liga side, and it was reported that he was in the capital of Spain on deadline day.

According to reports, the 29-year-old failed a medical, making the deal fall through, but president Cerezo has since claimed that the club were never in for the striker.

Cerezo silenced the speculation, he said: “No, if he has been in Madrid, which is something I do not know, he may have come to do other things.

“I think he is injured, that he is recovering but I have not talked to him for a while.

“But without question there has not been anything to do with us.” he added.

Falcao is currently on a season-long loan deal with Premier League side Chelsea but has not been performing to the highest level and has yet to find good form since his loan spell at Manchester United last campaign.

The Colombian was not included in Guus Hiddink’s Champions League squad this week, with the club bringing in new Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato into Stamford Bridge.
