Fenerbahce have asked Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt to convince compatriot Robin Van Persie to sign for the Turkish club, reports the Daily Star.

The reigning Super Lig Champions are keen on Van Persie, aged 31, and are set to put together a bid to attempt to sign him, with the help of Kuyt.

Kuyt, a former Liverpool favourite, currently plays his club football with the Istanbul club, who are keen to add signings during the winter transfer window in January.

Turkish media have suggested that Fenerbahce have assigned Kuyt on a mission to bring Van Persie to the club, with the player’s future up in the air, after United signed Colombian striker Falcao on a loan deal from AS Monaco on deadline day.

Kuyt and Van Persie are close friends, and the former Liverpool striker, who has spent two years in Turkey, stated recently: “We are good friends.

“He follows Turkish football closely and is very impressed with this country.”
