Ex-defender believes deal looks set to be finalised

Former-Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand believes the club are close to signing Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Frenchman has been strongly linked with a move away from St Marys since last summer, but after Ronald Koeman‘s arrival, his proposed move away from the club was blocked.

Schneiderlin Still Wants Move

Schneiderlin was furious at the club for blocking his move away, with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur interested, especially after seeing all his team-mates get big-club moves.

However, he moved on from it and put in a superb campaign for The Saints, helping them finish seventh in the table.

Despite the positive campaign under Koeman, Schneiderlin still wants to leave Southampton and eyes a Champions League club, alerting Manchester United and once again Arsenal.

Both clubs have been linked with making a move for the 24-year-old, but according to reports, United are in pole position to land the French international.

To add further fuel to the fire, former-player, Ferdinand, has admitted that he expects a deal to Old Trafford to be finalised in the next few weeks.

Ferdinand reckons deal is done

‘£20-something million, it looks like it’s going to be done,’ he said on his YouTube channel.

‘He’s a player who could add something to United, a bit of steel, can pass the ball and play it through the lines from back to front.

‘I think he’s a good player, a good addition to the squad, especially if someone like [Michael] Carrick, who is so influential for United, gets injured.

‘I think this guy can step in and help buffer that. I think he’s a very good, talented player.’

Despite Ferdinand’s confidence in the deal, Koeman has revealed that as of yet, no formal bids for the midfielder have been made.
