Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, 34, has rubbished claims that David Moyes will not be able to carry on Ferguson’s 26-year long legacy at the club with success.

The former England International, in an interview with the Daily Mirror, argues that the appointment of Moyes “signals longetivity”.

“More than anything, I think the club wanted a manager who was going to be here for a long period of time and try to emulate what Sir Alex did. The new boss will have his own ways and his own style of management but there are elements of Sir Alex in him” Said Ferdinand.

The 34 year old dubbed the former Everton manager a “winner” whose teams carry “a real identity in the way they play”.

Furthermore, the defender stresses that Moyes will be given time at the club to implement his philosophy, saying that “United has a proven history of giving managers a chance to do that [change things over the course of time]

Moyes’ job at Manchester United starts officially on July 1st
