Ferland Mendy To Real Madrid 'Confirmed'

France head coach, Didier Deschamps confirmed that Ferland Mendy will be a Real Madrid player from next season.

The Olympique Lyon defender has been tipped to move to the Spanish capital on a €50m transfer this summer. Zinedine Zidane has already strengthened the Galactico ranks with the additions of Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Rodrygo and Eder Militao.

Real are on the offensive this transfer season after enduring a highly disappointing 2018/19 campaign. This would mean a total revamp of the current squad and finding long-term replacements for ageing stars.

Marcelo has manned the left-back position at the Santiago Bernabeu for the better part of the last decade. Nobody has managed to strip him off his starting spot, not even former Portuguese international, Fabio Coentrao or Theo Hernandez. However, with the Brazilian hitting 31 this year, Mendy is being lined up to succeed into his spot.

The 24-year-old took part in France’s Euro 2020 qualifier defeat against Turkey on Saturday, after which the Deschamps revealed, “Ferland has had a spectacular growth. He was in Ligue 2 two years ago and he will be at Real Madrid next year. He has both feet and with us he has been good every time he has had to play.”
