Fernando Torres doesn’t mind competition

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has revealed that he doesn’t mind having competition with new signing Samuel Eto’o for the starting spot up front and has admitted that the two of them are good friends, despite fighting for the same position.

Eto’o, who signed for the Premier League side this summer, started against Everton this weekend but wasted a host of chances during their 1-0 loss at Goodison Park and Torres couldn’t do much better when he entered the match either.

Both of them are competing along with Demba Ba, but it looks like Jose Mourinho favours the Cameroon international over both Torres and Ba.

Despite the fierce competition, the former-Liverpool striker has admitted that competition is healthy for the club and it hasn’t stopped the two becoming friends.

‘There is now more competition up front but Demba, Samuel and me are not enemies, we are friends. We are team-mates and are fighting for the same targets. I think it’s really good for the team,’ Torres told the Evening Standard.

‘Eto’o is one of the best strikers I have ever seen. I played against him in Spain many times and you can see the record he had there with Real Mallorca and Barcelona, as well as in Inter.

‘I am sure he is going to really enjoy this period of his career with Chelsea. He is training really well, I wish him all the best and will help him in every way that I can.’
