FIFA is gearing up to introduce a 10-day transfer window next summer, aimed at helping clubs navigate the complexities of the upcoming Club World Cup.

FIFA to Launch 10-Day Transfer Window Ahead of Club World Cup

The tournament, set to take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13, will feature 32 of the world’s top teams, including Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool.

The timing of the event, however, has raised concerns over player contracts expiring mid-tournament, with many star names potentially left without a club.

Players like Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan, as well as Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies, all face the possibility of having their deals end on June 30, creating uncertainty for both players and clubs.

To address this, FIFA has announced an “exceptional registration window,” set to open on June 1.

This new window will allow players whose contracts are nearing expiration to sign with new teams ahead of the Club World Cup.

An additional transfer window, beginning June 27, will also be available for clubs to make last-minute adjustments.

For clubs like Liverpool and Bayern, who could see key players become transfer targets, the window offers a chance to avoid disruptions during a critical tournament.

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, along with Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, are among those who could be affected.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino called the move a “necessary adjustment,” ensuring that the tournament proceeds smoothly while also offering clubs and players flexibility.

The hope is that this new window will ease the pressures caused by contract expirations, allowing the best players to perform on the global stage.
