Will the 2026 World Cup have 48 teams?

Yes, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first edition to feature 48 teams, a significant expansion from the 32-team format used since 1998.

This expansion leads to a new tournament structure. The teams are divided into 12 groups of four.
