Jose Mourinho to chop five first-team players from squad

Chelsea Football Club are prepared to lose five players over the Summer so that they can raise some funds before signing new players, with Jose Mourinho expected to be busy in the market.

Since returning to Stamford Bridge, Mourinho has been working on a ‘one-in, one-out’ method in order to stay in-line with the new Financial Fair Play rules, and it looks like he may do the same again this season.

Chelsea’s Transfer Targets

According to reports, the Premier League champions are keen on bringing in three or four new players for the season ahead in order to retain their title and also go further in the Champions League.

Players like; Gareth Bale, Antoine Griezmann, Koke, Raheem Sterling and Diego Godin have all been linked with a Summer switch to Chelsea, but Mourinho is currently focusing on players to sell beforehand.

According to reports, five first-team players could be set for the chop at The Bridge, with four of them being sold and one being released.

Five Out

The four on the ‘for sale’ list are; Petr Cech, Oscar, Juan Cuadrado and Filipe Luis, whilst Didier Drogba is the fifth, who could leave on a free.

The veteran’s striker is out of contract at the end of the season and as of yet, no contract talks have taken place between the two parties, meaning he could leave on a free.

As for the four up for sale, Cech is expected to leave after falling out of favour at the club, whilst Oscar and Cuadrado could be sold to raise funds and free up space for Sterling from Liverpool.

Sterling has informed Liverpool that he wants to quit the club, and Chelsea are desperate to sign the Englishman ahead of their rivals, Manchester City and Arsenal.

The final likely departure is Luis. The left-back has struggled to impress during his debut season in England and a swift return to Atletico Madrid is on the cards.

Mourinho has favoured Cesar Azpilicueta at the left-back position leaving Luis on the fringes of the squad.
