The striker left for Germany in 2014

According to reports, Newcastle United are interested in signing ex-Arsenal flop Nicklas Bendtner in the current transfer window.

After a disappointing spell at the Gunners, which saw him leave on loan three times to Birmingham City, Sunderland and Juventus, Bendtner eventually left on a free transfer to join Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg.

However, the Denmark international has scored just nine goals in two years for Die Wolfe, which is why German newspaper Bild understand he will leave on loan before Deadline Day.

And Newcastle are the favourites for the centre forward, as the Magpies’ boss Steve McLaren needs cover for the injured Papiss Cisse.

The deal could be beneficial for both the Toon and Bendtner, because the 27-year old made over 100 Premier League appearances during his days in North London.

BUT, the North-East club may have to fight off competition from FC Copenhagen, who are Bendtner’s hometown team.
