Former Arsenal player John Jensen has been appointed as Denmark’s interim manager for their matches against Slovakia and Wales. Jensen replaces Age Hareide who has stepped down because of the ongoing dispute between the DBU and players’ union Spillerne over a financial issue.

Hence, DBU haven’t yet announced Denmark’s squad for the international break yet. Some reports suggest that a totally different team consisting of home-based players will be selected while others suggested that some of the country’s futsal players would be selected.

There is even the possibility of a ban for Denmark from UEFA provided their Nations League match against Wales is forfeited.

John Jensen is a former Danish international. He made 69 appearances for the national team from 1987-1995, scoring three goals. Jensen’s first international goal came in the Euro 1992 final against Germany at Gothenburg. He also played in Euro 1988.

Jensen’s managerial career started in 1999. Since then, he has been the head coach of three clubs and the assistant coach of three clubs that include Getafe, Blackburn and Brondby,

Jensen said, “Where we are now, I see only losers in the conflict, and Danish football loses most of all. When I say yes to help here, it’s because I feel very strong for the national team as an institution, and because I think the most important thing must be that the games will be played. I just hope to help us get through the two matches and that the parties find a solution as soon as possible. The national team has meant infinitely much to me in my career and in my life. It hurts to follow this course, and I hope my contribution can help mitigate the negative consequences.”

Denmark play Slovakia in a friendly tomorrow at Trnava. They then begin their UEFA Nations League campaign against Wales at Aarhus on Sunday. Denmark’s group in the Nations League also has Ireland.
