Former Arsenal star Martin Keown was impressed with teenager Matteo Guendouzi on his debut. Arsenal began their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City. Goals from Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva gave the reigning champs a winning start.

Keown said, “Guendouzi the 19-year-old was playing in there and I thought he was quite brave. Things didn’t go well for him at times but he showed a good energy. He showed that he really had that character and he didn’t hide. But patience is going to be the key after 22 years of Arsene Wenger. They used to pass the ball out from the back, but not to the extent that they did today.”

Several Arsenal fans also praised Guendouzi on social media. One fan wrote, “Guendouzi was top class today. Really rate him from what I’ve seen. Love a player who makes a mistake, recovers and then can have the confidence to try things again against the champions.”

Arsenal have another tough task ahead as they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
