The 24-year-old has not played for his country since 2011 due to a reported dispute with the governing body, who have released a statement explaining that Vela will not be selected.

Vela has been a key player for Real Sociedad since permantantly signing for the Spanish club in 2012 after a successful loan spell.

The Mexican signed for Arsenal from Guadalajara in 2006 for a fee of ÂŁ550,000, but struggled to nail down a first team place and was often loaned out by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

Vela has been in sparkling form for Sociedad over the past two years, scoring 14 goals and grabbing nine assists last season.

With nine goals in just 20 starts so far this season, Vela will be a huge miss to the Mexican team as they prepare to face Cameroon and Croatia and hosts Brazil in the summer.
