Former-Blue expects Stones signing

Craig Burley believes Everton will ‘buckle’

Former-Chelsea player Craig Burley believes Everton will eventually sell John Stones to the Premier League champions, even if it goes down to transfer deadline day.

The Blues have been linked with the centre-back all summer, and have already seen two formal bids turned down by The Toffees worth around £25million and £30m.

However, in the past few days, Stones has handed in a formal transfer request to Everton and has asked to leave the club in order to complete a move to Stamford Bridge.

Roberto Martinez has since rejected the request and told Stones he is to remain at Goodison Park, but the Premier League champions will test their resolve by offering around £40m for the defender, making him one of the most expensive defenders ever.

Deal Expected

Although Everton don’t want to sell the 21-year-old, Burley has spoken to TalkSPORT and he believes it’s only a matter of time before his old-club get their man.

Burley told the Sports Bar: “This is one that could go down to the wire but I think, eventually, Everton will buckle if they get the right deal.”
