Former Chelsea Managers in Talks for England Job
Two former Chelsea managers, Frank Lampard and Graham Potter, have emerged as candidates for the England manager position, as the Football Association (FA) explores options following Gareth Southgate’s departure this summer.
Southgate left his role after guiding the England national team for several successful years, and the search for a permanent successor is now heating up.
Lee Carsley, who took charge as interim manager after Southgate’s exit, remains the favorite for the role. Carsley has made an impressive start, winning his first two matches.
His ongoing stint with the national team seems to be an audition for the full-time job, but the FA is keeping its options open.
According to reports, Frank Lampard and Graham Potter are being considered for the position.
Lampard, a former England international and Chelsea legend, has been linked with the job before, and his strong connection with the English game makes him a popular choice among fans.
Potter, known for his tactical acumen, also stands out as a contender, following stints at Brighton and Chelsea.
Eddie Howe, Newcastle United’s current manager, is another name reportedly under consideration. Despite Carsley’s current standing as the frontrunner, the FA is casting a wide net to ensure the right appointment is made.
While speculation surrounds who will take over permanently, the FA is also said to have an ideal choice in mind—Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
However, whether Guardiola would be available or interested remains unclear. For now, the focus is on Lampard, Potter, and Carsley as the next possible England manager.
