Former Chicago Fire midfielder and Guatemalan international Marco Pappa has MLS back on his radar after his contract with Heerenveen of the Dutch Eredivisie was officially terminated after just one season, according to a report on Friday out of Guatemala.

The Guatemalan newspaper Prensa Libre indicated that Pappa, who left the Fire after the 2012 campaign following five seasons in Chicago, “would be looking to go back to MLS” following his brief stint in the Netherlands.

Pappa had a breakout season with the Fire in 2010, scoring seven goals, recording five assists and receiving an MLS All-Star Game appearance. In his four complete seasons in Chicago, he scored 26 goals and had 16 assists.

But his spell in Europe didn’t quite go as smoothly.

He made just one start for Heerenveen and just 10 appearances in the 2013 season. According to Dutch news site nieuws.nl, Pappa’s contract was terminated, and he is not listed on Heerenveen’s preseason roster.
