Former Liverpool player David Thompson has urged the Reds to complete the signing of Croatia’s Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan. The Inter Milan winger has been linked to Manchester United since the past couple of days. Reports in Italy claim that Manchester United are t pay a heavy sum if they are to bring Perisic to Old Trafford.

However, Thompson wants Liverpool to intervene and get Perisic because playing under Jose Mourinho would “stifle him with defensive responsibility”.

The 40-year old former Liverpool winger tweeted, “That Perisic would look fantastic in a Liverpool shirt, going to Man Utd under Mourinho would ruin him he’d stifle him with defensive responsibility!”

Perisic still has four years left on his contract with Inter Milan. However, his contract has no release clause. Hence, Inter will be looking to hold on to a hefty sum and make the most of Perisic’s deal.

Perisic won’t have a price any bigger due to his stellar performances at the recently concluded World Cup in Russia. The 29-year old winger was one of Croatia’s best players during the competition as he scored three goals including a screamer in the final last night. However, Perisic’s handball gave France the penalty through which they scored their second of four goals last night.

Nevertheless, Perisic’s performances has definitely made him a sought-after player. With a former suggesting that they sign Perisic, it will be interesting to see how Liverpool act. Perisic may not be a full-fledged striker but his addition to the Liverpool squad will surely deepen their attack.
