The Venezuela international has done the bulk of scoring this season so far for the lacklustre Magpies.
Former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has said that Salomon Rondon is a bright spark for the Tyneside club this season. The Magpies have been disappointing this season in front of the goal and have failed to convert their chances on most occasions. However, Rondon, who was brought on loan from West Bromwich Albion in summer, has done the bulk of scoring for his side so far this season, notching up as many as six goals in 15 matches in all competitions.
Ameobi said, “You have to look at Salomon Rondon, our number nine. He obviously looks like the bright spark in the team, he looks like he can score goals. He’s doing that consistently now.”
He added, “I mentioned the last time I was on, if you get the ball into the box to this guy, he will finish. He will get above defenders and he’s doing that; it’s five goals in eight games. In a struggling team, that is huge. We’re just going to have to keep on feeding into his strengths. I think that the side that finished 10th last year, the majority of the players are still here, so that’s a positive. If they can get the belief back in the way they play, I think we can make a run like we did at the end of last season.”
