Former Real Madrid player Rafael van der Vaart criticised Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus, telling that Lionel Messi would never have left Barcelona. Ronaldo drew curtains on his highly decorated spell at Real Madrid by moving to Juventus this summer. However, the Portuguese is yet to find the net, having already played two matches.
Van der Vaart said, “You know, guys like Messi… Messi will never leave Barcelona. I’m slightly sad about Ronaldo’s departure.”
Van der Vaart who currently plies his trade at Danish top-flight club Esbjerg fB, played with Ronaldo during the Portuguese’s early years at Real.
Real Madrid on the other hand, have done pretty well in Ronaldo’s absence so far. They started their league by defeating Getafe 2-0 thanks to goals from Dani Carvajal and Gareth Bale. Then, they came from behind to thrash Girona 4-1 on Sunday. Karim Benzema scored a brace while Bale and Sergio Ramos added a goal each.
Los Blancos next play Leganes on Saturday.
