Frank De Boer TURNED DOWN Liverpool!

Brendan Rodgers has many admirers. The general feeling at Anfield is that Rodgers is taking the Reds forward, improving in all areas, and Liverpool are once again a force to be reckoned with. Despite a few blips, a handful of poor performances and the odd unwanted headline, the likeable Northern Irishman is moving the club forward.

But, it seems it could have been oh so different at the Merseyside club. Current Ajax boss Frank De Boer apparently TURNED DOWN the chance to manage Liverpool in 2012, after Kenny Dalglish’s second, but short tenure was brought to an end.

It has also come to light that the former Dutch international turned down Tottenham.

In a recent interview, De Boer said: ‘Together with Mauricio Pochettino I was the biggest candidate for Spurs, and if they had chosen me, I would’ve done it.

‘If I get an offer from a club in the future, I will consider the possibility and then follow my feeling.

‘I look at whether it’s a club where I think I can present myself well and where I’ll be able to act in the way I like.

‘Before, there was potential interest from Monaco as well, but it wasn’t something I was looking for at that moment. Liverpool and Spurs are clubs I could manage.

‘Liverpool approached me in the same way Tottenham did this year, wanting to hold exploratory talks first.’

The Anfield faithful, in the main, will be delighted that De Boer turned down the role, allowing Rodgers to step up from Swansea. Having won four Dutch titles with Ajax, maybe De Boer is considering plying his trade in the Premier League in the near future, but with Rodgers and Pochettino having success at their respective clubs, it looks unlikely that we will see him in an Anfield dugout, or taking a stroll down White Hart Lane anytime soon.
