It has been confirmed that Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will captain England when they face Chile at Wembley on Friday night.

The decision was made after it was announced that usual captain Steven Gerrard would not be fit in time for the Friday night friendly due to a hip injury, but he is expected to have the armband back for the Germany clash on Tuesday.

Despite being a doubt himself, Lampard has been handed the captaincy because he is expected to recover from illness in time to face the South Americans.

It will be a special night for the 35-yer-old as he will lead out his country and will also receive a golden cap after he made his 100th appearance against Ukraine the other month.
