Frank Lampard set for new contract extension

Frank Lampard has been in talks with the club for a number of weeks over extending his contract, which was due to expire this June.

Jose Mourinho has always hinted that Lampard would be given a contract extension and it now seems that an agreement has been reached.

This new contract will put to bed any rumours there were about the England midfielders future, as he has recently been linked with a move to the MLS.

The midfielder will be hoping to be able to go to Brazil with the England squad for the World Cup but he will have fierce competition from the likes of Ross Barkely and Jordon Henderson for a spot in the team.

The midfielder is now 35 and is approaching his 13th year at Chelsea and his age might work against him when it comes to the time when Roy Hodgson picks his squad.

But the Chelsea man has still managed to make 38 appearances this season, and he will be hoping to add to his current tally of 103 England caps.
