Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin reportedly turned down a January transfer move to Chelsea, according to his agent.

The Colombian, aged 28 had fallen behind in the pecking order at the San Siro prior to Roberto Mancini’s appointment at the club, with Manchester United havily linked with the player over the course of last summer.

However since the arrival of the former Manchester City manager, Guarin has become a key part in proceedings at the Serie A side, form which has seen him catch the eye of Jose Mourinho, and Chelsea.

Indeed, his agent, Marcelo Ferreyra, revealed that Guarin rejected the chance to join the West Londoners, and also Real Madrid, to remain in Italy.

He told calciomercato.com: “He was happy after the game against Atalanta.

“Since [Inter Coach Roberto] Mancini arrived, he told Fredy he was counting on him.

“Trust is everything in football, and we’re also counting on Inter, the result is the Guarin you’re seeing.

“He’s complete in attack, defence and tactically.

“Were there bids from Chelsea and Real Madrid? That’s all true, but we rejected those offers because we had a real, solid project with the club.

“Both sides have respected each other and now you’re seeing the results.”
