New Real Madrid signing Gareth Bale has revealed that he is hoping to be fit in time for this weekend’s fixture away at Villarreal, despite the lack of first-team action so far this season.

The Welshman completed his mega-move to the Spanish giants just before the deadline day and after agreeing a fee of over ÂŁ80million, all eyes will be on Bale this weekend, if he does play, as he is now officially football’s highest ever transfer fee.

The 24-year-old met his team-mates for the first time on Wednesday, including a warm welcome from Cristiano Ronaldo, who did hold the label of highest transfer fee when Madrid paid Manchester United ÂŁ80million for his services.

Speaking at Madrid’s official kit launch, Bale admitted that he is ready to play and is hoping he can feature at the weekend.

“I feel good,” he said. “I have been training in the last week with Wales. I have had two good sessions today and I got half an hour with Wales on Tuesday.

“Obviously I am a bit behind everyone else physically, but I am hopeful I can catch up as soon as possible.

“I think you will have to wait until the match to see whether I am picked or not. Hopefully I can get my fitness up straight away and hopefully get a place in the team.”
