Gareth Bale’s agent discusses transfer to Real Madrid

Gareth Bale has been one of the most-watched footballers this summer after he was stuck in a ‘will-he, won’t-he’ situation regarding his move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, but eventually, the Welshman left Tottenham Hotspur for Madrid in a move worth ÂŁ86million.

With the move completed and all the rumours and reports put to bed, it was then Madrid’s president Florentino Perez who opened it all up again by saying Manchester United had made a bid for Bale, but Spurs refused to sell to a Premier League rival.

Perez also said that he felt his club got Bale on the cheap.

Now it’s the turn of Jonathan Barnett, who is Gareth Bale’s agent and he has been discussing the busy summer and what actually happened during the transfer window.

Speaking to Spanish TV show Jugones, Barnett said: ‘The signing of Bale came close to falling apart. Tottenham made a bid for Bale to stay. Meetings were not always peace and love, some were harsh with disagreements.

‘Bale needed a few days off so he asked permission from Tottenham [to go to Marbella]. The player spoke to no-one, he was not with anyone and he saw no-one. He’s strong, but that must have been torture for him.

‘The Spanish press didn’t understand why Tottenham weren’t agreeing to the money, but if Tottenham needed money the deal would have been done the first day. Moreover, there was a club that offered more money than Real Madrid. A lot more money.’

Bale’s agent then finished the interview by comparing him to another mega-money move to Spain.

‘Bale has played in the Premiership and has won many awards. To me, he’s better than Neymar.’
