Manchester City midfielder, Gareth Barry, has been banned for one match and also fined £8,000 after admitting to a misconduct charge by the Football Association.

The bans means the English midfielder will miss City’s game against Newcastle on Saturday.

The 31-year-old was charged for misconduct towards match officials during his side’s derby defeat to Manchester United last weekend.

The FA took action for “breach of Rule E3 in that he used abusive and/or insulting words towards an official”.

A City statement read: “Both the club and Gareth Barry reluctantly accept the punishment which leads to Gareth being unavailable to take part in the weekend’s match against Newcastle.”

Barry will be available for selection again for City on the 22nd December when City face relegation threatened side Reading.
