England will lodge a complaint with FIFA after racist abuses were hurled towards players in the 5-1 win over Montenegro, Gareth Southgate has confirmed.

England maintained their excellent track in the European qualifiers as they now have scored five goals in each of their last two matches. Ross Barkley netted a brace while Michael Keane, Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane contributed as the Three Lions ran riot at the Podgorica City stadium.

However, the atmosphere at the stadium was not up to the mark as a number of England players were victim of racist chants from the stands. Danny Rose was one of the few players who particularly was targeted by a section of the crowd.

Debutant Callum Hudson-Odoi also complained that a lighter was thrown at him from the stands.

Southgate said, “When Danny Rose was booked at the end of the game I definitely heard racist chanting behind me.

“It’s completely unacceptable. The most important thing is that our players feel supported by us and we’ll make sure it’s reported and we are there for them and anything they want us to support them with, that we are able to do.

“I think that reporting is already in place because so many people in other areas of the ground have heard it.

“I believe the UEFA delegate also heard it.”
