Gary Cahill is close to signing a new contract at Chelsea.
The England star still has 3 years on his contract, and is expected to follow Cesar Azplicueta and Thibaut Courtois by signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge. The 28-year-old has formed a rock-solid partnership with John Terry in the heart of defence, and will be hoping to play a big part in the Blues’ title ambitions this season.
Since moving to west London, Cahill has won the ChampionsLeague, Europa League and the FA Cup, earning him the role of vice-captain in Roy Hodgson’s Three Lions squad.
The centre-back will become the third Chelsea star in recent times to pen a newdeal after Courtois and Azpilicueta signed up for Mourinho’s revolution.
The latter has become a key cog in defence, displacing Ashley Cole from his left-back slot last season, whilst Courtois has won the race against the long-serving Petr Cech to become Mourinho’s first-choice goalkeeper.
His extension signals the end of Cech’s outstanding Chelsea career, and reportsclaim the former Rennes star will seek an exit in the January transfer window.
