Gary Neville believes Steve Bruce would have been a good choice for Man United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been unveiled as the new face of Manchester United following the sacking of Jose Mourinho. The United legend has been appointed as the caretaker manager until the end of the season as the club hierarchy carries a thorough recruitment process to appoint a new full-time manager.

Former Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has strong links with Manchester United since his playing days at Old Trafford and he was one of the potential candidates for the job.  Bruce is currently without a job after being sacked by Villa following a series of unimpressive results in the Championship earlier in the season.

And former United captain Gary Neville believes that Bruce would have been the ideal man for the caretaker role as he has all the experience to take the club in the right direction.

Neville said, “At this moment in time I can see the interim appointment for the next six months being someone who brings favour and good will.”

“He fits into the category, as does Laurent Blanc, as would Steve Bruce, who I saw mentioned.

“These three, who know the club, would only have to steady the ship and hold to fort until the next four or five years.

“However, if they go and win the Champions League, which can happen, you say ‘okay, leave them in charge’.”
