Tension has been slowly rising in the Barcelona camps regarding Ernesto Valverde’s unsure future with the club.
The manager has not revealed to the club’s boards if he plans on staying for long. Earlier reports claim that Valverde’s contract is set to run till the end of the 20219/20 season but both parties can mutually terminate the contract after the current campaign.
Speaking on the issue Gerard Pique strongly wants the 54-year-old to stay in the Camp Nou. After Barca’s 2-1 victory over Getafe, the centre-back said, “It’s a decision that he will make and we will respect because he is the coach. We would be delighted if he decided to continue and he is doing a magnificent job. He brings calmness and he is producing results and showing that his way works.”
Barcelona did win the domestic double under Valverde last season and are also well poised to retain the La Liga title this season. They are 5 points ahead of Atletico Madrid in the standings and a whopping 10 over their rivals, Real Madrid.
The Galacticos dropped further down the table last night after giving up an embarrassing 0-2 loss against Real Sociedad at the Bernabeu. Pique further added, “I don’t know if it’s a major blow to La Liga, in terms of the points between us and the rivals.”
“It’s always good to come back from the Christmas break with a win. I think it’s years since we did it.”
